The great outdoors
await you.

Experience the adventure of a lifetime.

Through exposure to multiple geographic settings, wilderness experiences, and opportunities for community service, participants learn valuable skills that will serve them for years to come. Participants travel in co-ed cohorts of 13 youth supported by one male and one female trip lead. Opportunities for backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, biking and fishing are included in many trips, all while building lifelong memories with new best friends.

FINANCIAL NOTE: All trips include a nominal registration fee. While we will bill families for the remaining balance of a trip, we only ask that families pay what they can. Families therefore are not required to pay anything beyond the registration fee if they are financially unable. We do this to offset the high costs of sending youth on these types of adventures. Money raised during the off season goes toward covering the cost of each trip.

Learner Outcomes

Camping Skills

Campers will learn important skills such as trip planning, map reading / compass use, gear maintenance, first aid basics, leave-no-trace etiquette, basics of rock climbing, rafting and basic survival skills.

Character Development

Campers will set and monitor individual goals focused on self-awareness & self-management skills, as well as collaboration focused on breaking down barriers of difference as a way to build empathy and understanding of others. We use circle-up time at the beginning and end of each day to reflect on the celebrations and challenges of the day as well as in the moment reflective practices focused on supporting mental awareness of self.

Cultural Experience

During the initial leg of the journey east, campers will participate in a trip to the Lorraine Motel and the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN. The guided experience will provide context to the history of the movement, and the continued injustices that people of color have faced throughout America’s history - including the modern era. On the return leg of the journey, campers will visit the Equal Justice Initiative.

The community service element of the trip is currently TBD.

 Interested in our financial model?

Roam Wild is founded on the notion that all youth, regardless of financial means, should be able to participate in the joys of summer camp. Therefore, we work hard during our off-season to ensure we raise enough money to cover any costs for families - you pay what you can beyond a small registration fee.
